A square face is similar to the round face in that the length and width are the same. However, square faces have more of an angular shape than round faces. You can image the difference between oval nails and square ones. They may be the same length but the way the corners are shaped make it appear differently.
Long or straight hairstyles should be avoided — opt for short to medium length styles in wavy or curly styles with bangs. The goal is to minimize the appearance of the angles on your face for a more feminine look. Reese Witherspoon, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and Keira Knightley, all join the square face family.

Oblong faces are longer than they are wide. This face shape also creates angles that can be softened with layered, short to medium hairstyles. Choosing styles that shorten the appearance of the face means avoiding long wigs that would make the face appear longer. Another suggestion to balance the face is to wear bangs or sweep the hair across the forehead. Wavy and curly styles can add volume and take away from the long, narrow look.
Again, straight wig styles would make the face appear more narrow and longer, even with bangs. Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, and Jenny MacCarthy (pictured below) have conquered styles with or without bangs, and wear them well. Use this as a guide and always choose what is most comfortable. If you have been wearing styles that you feel do not complement your face shape, these suggestions may be helpful.

Longer styles can be worn tastefully as well, just not without some body, wave or curl.
